Re: CJ5 6L 258 Vacuum mess. Ok. My 258 is a little different than yours, but, I'll help where I can. PCV stands for " positive crankcase ventilation". You need to run the hose coming from the valve cover to a high volume vacum. ( direct to the intake manifold ). You can't have that line running to the air cleaner.

Re: 258 vacuum hose question. Well, I found the problem. If you look at the photo, in the upper left part of the picture there is a hose that was connected to the port coming out of the firewall. I have drawn a white line to where it was connected. As soon as I disconnected this hose, the engine immediately smoothed out.
